Social Responsibility: Community Involvement

In addition to offering knowledge, expertise and world-renowned products, our employees go further to fulfill our corporate responsibility to our neighbors and to the planet.
As set forth in its Corporate Giving Initiative policy, Olympus Corporation of Americas (OCA) is proud to target corporate giving initiatives designed to benefit and sustain society, making positive contributions in the following areas:
- The advancement of health care
- Worthy causes important to our employees and located in communities where our employees live and work
As a leading medical device company with roots in healthcare going back nearly 100 years, our corporate giving philosophy is aligned with industry guidance and best practices for healthcare companies. Ever cognizant of our duty to comply with laws governing interactions with health care professionals, we adhere to the charitable contributions requirements of the “Advanced Medical Technology Association's (AdvaMed) Code of Ethics on Interactions with Health Care Professionals.” Olympus identifies 501(c)(3) charitable organizations* that support the above advancements toward building a sustainable society. Additional solicitations and requests for monetary or in-kind support will not be considered.
Furthermore, Olympus will not make contributions to (a) organizations that discriminate on the basis of race, creed, color, gender, or national origin or (b) individuals. Olympus will not make contributions to denominational religious or political organizations, or similar limited-purpose groups, unless the funds are for purposes that will benefit the community as a whole or further the interests of Olympus.
Olympus also encourages and supports employees of participating OCA entities in giving back to the communities where they work and live through volunteer activities. The Visionary Volunteers program enables employees to register the organization(s) and number of hours volunteered, and as a result, are eligible for personal recognition and company support for the organization(s) they serve.
Dollars for Doers
Olympus further supports volunteer efforts by making monetary donations (known as Dollars for Doers grants) to qualified organizations in recognition of the number of volunteer hours served by each employee registered for the program in a calendar year. Dollars for Doers grants are paid at a rate of $10 for each volunteer hour served. To qualify, a minimum of 10 hours must be served, with a maximum $500 grant to a single organization, per employee, in a calendar year.
Employee Donation Matching
Olympus supports organizations and causes that are important to employees of participating OCA entities through a Donation Matching policy. The company is proud to match cash contributions to eligible 501(c)(3) charitable organizations in the amount of 100 percent of the employee contribution. To qualify, the employee contribution must be at least $50 and is limited to 1 percent of the employee’s annual base salary in the fiscal year in which the match is sought.
* 501(c)(3) is a designation indicating that the charitable organization is registered with the IRS and eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions from the public.
